It is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015.

Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2 or Global Goal 2) aims to achieve "zero hunger". It is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015.

The official wording is: "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture".

SDG 2 highlights the "complex inter-linkages between food security, nutrition, rural transformation and sustainable agriculture".

According to the United Nations, there are around 690 million people who are hungry, which accounts for slightly less than 10 percent of the world population.

One in every nine people goes to bed hungry each night, including 20 million people currently at risk of famine in South Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Nigeria.

Links with other SDGs

The SDGs are deeply interconnected. All goals could be affected if progress on one specific goal is not achieved.

Climate change and natural disasters are affecting food security. Disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and mitigation are essential to increase harvests quality and quantity. Targets 2.4 and 2.5 are directly linked to the environment.

Zero Hunger: A World Where Everyone Eats

Imagine a world where every single person has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round. No child goes to bed hungry. No family worries about their next meal. This is the dream of Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

Unfortunately, our reality is far from perfect. In 2022, 735 million people – nearly 10% of the global population – were experiencing chronic hunger. Conflict, climate change, and deepening inequalities have exacerbated this issue, putting the 2030 deadline for achieving Zero Hunger in jeopardy.

But there is still hope. Goal 2 isn't just about ending hunger; it's about building a sustainable food system that nourishes people and planet alike. This ambitious goal has several key targets:

  • Ending hunger and ensuring access to safe, nutritious food for all (Target 2.1).
  • Eradicating all forms of malnutrition, including stunting and wasting in children (Target 2.2).
  • Doubling the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers, particularly women and indigenous communities (Target 2.3).
  • Promoting sustainable agriculture that protects the environment and conserves resources (Target 2.4).

Achieving these targets requires a multifaceted approach:

  • Investing in small-scale farmers:Empowering them with resources, knowledge, and access to markets is crucial for increasing food production and improving livelihoods.
  • Promoting sustainable practices: This includes climate-smart agriculture, soil conservation, and efficient water management to ensure long-term food security.
  • Reducing food waste: One-third of all food produced globally is wasted. Addressing this gap could significantly improve food availability.
  • Strengthening social safety nets: This ensures vulnerable populations have access to food even during crises.

Everyone has a role to play in achieving Zero Hunger. Here are some actions you can take:

  • Support organizations working on food security and sustainable agriculture.
  • Make informed choices about the food you buy, prioritizing local, sustainable options.
  • Reduce food waste in your own home.
  • Raise awareness about the issue and advocate for policies that support food security.

By working together, we can create a world where everyone has the right to a healthy and nutritious diet. Let's join the movement towards Zero Hunger – a world where no one is left behind.

Happy Valentine's Day, young hearts!

Happy Valentine's Day, young hearts!

Today, and every day, remember that love exists in countless forms, beyond just romantic relationships. It's a day to celebrate the amazing connections that make life vibrant, meaningful, and full of potential!

Here's a message for you, wherever you are in the world:

Love yourself fiercely: You are unique, capable, and worthy of love – just as you are. Embrace your individuality, nurture your passions, and believe in your dreams. Self-love is the foundation for building healthy relationships with others.

Spread kindness like magic: A smile, a helping hand, a listening ear – these small acts of kindness can brighten someone's day and ripple outwards, making the world a more loving place.

Celebrate your friendships: Your friends are your chosen family, a source of laughter, support, and adventure. Value them, be there for them, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Embrace your passions: What sets your heart on fire? Whether it's music, art, sports, or something else entirely, pursue your passions with enthusiasm. They add color and joy to life, and open doors to unexpected opportunities.

Stand up for what you believe in: Use your voice to speak out against injustice, advocate for change, and make a positive impact on your community. You have the power to shape the world you want to live in.

Love doesn't always look the same: Open your heart to different kinds of love. Love your family, your pets, your teachers, your mentors, and even your favorite characters in books and movies. Each connection adds richness to your life.

Be your authentic self: Don't try to fit into someone else's mold. Celebrate your uniqueness, express yourself freely, and embrace the journey of discovering who you truly are.

Remember, love is a superpower: Use it to make the world a better place, one kind act at a time. Happy Valentine's Day, and remember, you are loved!
