The Toolkit on Pro-Environmental Youth Engagement was created by youth for youth living in Africa providing hands-on guidance on how to take sustainable action and engage in eco-friendly behavior on four different levels: individual, local & national, international and (social media) communication levels. The toolkit was developed by young authors under the Youth Empowerment and Training Initiatives (YETI) in Africa by UNEP-EU’s Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Multilateral Environmental Agreements 3 Programme (ACP MEAs 3).

Based on the synergies between the Global Gateway’s and the ACP MEAs 3’s approach towards Education and Research, the Toolkit provides valuable open-source material, addressing deficits in education on pro-environmental behavioral change by informing and educating young people in an inclusive, proactive manner around the topic while promoting free online learning tools and pieces of training (e.g., UNEP).

Poverty and Hunger:

Monday

* Global food prices hit record high, threatening millions with hunger. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned that global food prices have reached their highest level on record, putting millions of people at risk of hunger. The FAO's food price index, which tracks the international prices of a basket of food commodities, rose 2.3% in October to reach a new peak of 160.4 points. The rise in food prices is due to a number of factors, including supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and extreme weather events.

The Human Paradox: Dancing Between Rain and Drought

Introduction

Humans, the curious beings that we are, often find ourselves caught in a paradoxical dance between yearning for contrasting elements of nature. It's a peculiar cycle of complaints and desires: when the rain falls, we cry for warmth and the sun's embrace, yet we also fear the potential consequences of flooding. Conversely, cries of famine and drought echo when the sun dominates the sky. This paradox of human nature reveals the intricate relationship we share with the elements and the perpetual dance between our desires and fears.

The Rain's Embrace: From Chill to Flood

As raindrops cascade from the sky, there's a collective sigh of discomfort. "It's so cold," we exclaim, shivering in the face of nature's tears. Yet, in the same breath, we express our longing for the sun's warmth. It's a paradoxical dance between seeking refuge from the chill and yearning for the gentle caress of sunlight on our skin.

Simultaneously, as the rain continues its descent, a subtle undercurrent of fear emerges. The very element that nurtures the earth and replenishes our water sources also carries the potential for flooding and chaos. The paradox lies in our simultaneous desire for rain's comfort and our fear of its unrestrained power.

The Sun's Embrace: From Famine to Drought

As the sun takes center stage, its radiant beams bring forth a different set of paradoxes. The warmth we craved during the rain now intensifies, leading to complaints about scorching temperatures and a yearning for cooler days. In this dance, we find ourselves torn between the desire for the sun's benevolent glow and the wish for respite from its relentless heat.

However, the sun's dominion also unveils another layer of the human paradox – the fear of famine and drought. The same sun that nourishes crops and sustains life can, paradoxically, become the harbinger of arid landscapes and dwindling water supplies. In our quest for balance, we navigate the fine line between the sun's life-giving warmth and the potential consequences of prolonged drought.

Navigating the Paradox: Harmony Amidst the Dance

In this intricate dance of desires and fears, humans embody the paradox of our existence. Our yearning for warmth and abundance contrasts with the apprehension of the elements that provide them. It's a delicate balance, a perpetual dance where the steps are dictated by the rhythms of nature.

Perhaps the key lies in embracing the paradox and acknowledging the dual nature of our desires and fears. As stewards of the Earth, we must strive for harmony between our needs and the delicate balance of the natural world. By fostering a deep respect for the elements and implementing sustainable practices, we can transform the paradox into a symphony, where the dance between rain and sun becomes a celebration of life rather than a source of discord. In this harmonious dance, humanity may find its equilibrium amidst the ever-changing rhythms of nature.

The Ongoing Struggle for Palestinian Rights

One of the world's most persistent and divisive conflicts has been centred around the Palestinian people for many years. The fight for Palestinian rights is a complicated, long-standing subject that nevertheless garners concern on a worldwide scale.

The Palestinian people's aspiration for autonomy, statehood, and freedom from occupation are all linked to their rights struggle. Here are some salient features of this continuous conflict.

1. The Right to Self-Determination: The right to self-determination is innate for Palestinians, just like it is for every other nation. This implies that people ought to be free to choose their own government, define their own political standing, and direct their own destiny.

2. The Right of Return: The right of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their ancestral homes is one of the main points of contention in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The 1948 Arab-Israeli War resulted in the displacement of millions of Palestinians, and this topic is still highly contentious.

3. The control: There has been constant hostility and violence as a result of the Israeli military's control of Palestinian territory, which includes the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. Since this occupation severely limits their freedoms and rights, Palestinians demand that it end.

4. Human Rights Violations: Human rights groups have compiled a long list of human rights violations related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including things like resource inequality, home demolitions, and travel restrictions. Global human rights advocates are concerned about these violations.

5. The Two-State Solution: For years, peacemakers have suggested establishing an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel as part of the two-state solution. Its execution and viability are still up for debate, though.

6. International Diplomacy: Although there have been a number of resolutions and conversations pertaining to the Palestinian cause, a comprehensive and long-lasting solution has not yet been reached.

It's critical to keep in mind that there are many opposing narratives and points of view on this delicate and extremely complex topic. The struggle for Palestinian rights is a complex issue that has endured for many years.

The international community is still working to find a fair and peaceful end to the crisis that has been developing in Palestine in recent years. Maintaining awareness, empathy, and support for the struggle for Palestinian rights is essential because finding a fair and long-lasting solution is a worldwide duty that requires the cooperation of all people.

The Darkness Within Humanity: Why War Is Inherently Evil

War stands as a testament to the darkest chapters of human history, a relentless cycle of conflict that perpetuates devastation, loss, and suffering. It embodies the human condition at its worst, where the pursuit of power, ideology, or resources often eclipses the value of life and peace. The inherently evil nature of war is not only evident in the immediate destruction it causes but also in the long-lasting scars it leaves on societies, cultures, and the human psyche.

 Loss of Life:

At the heart of any conflict lie the lives sacrificed, often innocently, without a choice. Lives are extinguished on both sides of the battlefield, leaving behind grieving families, shattered communities, and an irreplaceable void. The toll on humanity is immeasurable, with each casualty representing a story, a dream, and a potential contribution to the world lost forever.

Societal Devastation:

War ravages communities, infrastructure, and economies. It leaves scars on the physical landscape, rendering homes and cities into rubble. The aftermath of war is not merely the end of conflict; it is the beginning of a prolonged period of reconstruction, healing, and reconciliation. The scars of war persist long after the guns fall silent, haunting the survivors for generations.

Psychological Trauma:

The psychological impact of war is profound. It not only affects the soldiers who engage in battle but also reverberates through civilian populations. The trauma of experiencing or witnessing violence, the loss of loved ones, and the overall chaos and fear during war leave deep and lasting scars on the human mind. These wounds often endure long after peace treaties are signed, manifesting in PTSD, anxiety, depression, and a host of other mental health issues.

Erosion of Moral and Ethical Values:

War often blurs the lines between right and wrong, leading to the erosion of moral and ethical values. In the chaos of conflict, atrocities are committed, sometimes justified under the banner of war. The values that underpin a civilized society are compromised, leading to a world where brutality and inhumanity become normalized.

Failure of Diplomacy and Humanity:

The occurrence of war signifies the failure of diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution. It shows the inability of humanity to resolve differences without resorting to violence. It highlights our failure to communicate, negotiate, and coexist peacefully, and showcases a world where power often triumphs over reason and compassion.

Ultimately, war is a manifestation of our inability to coexist peacefully. It's a stark reminder of the worst elements of humanity. To combat this evil requires a collective effort to prioritize peace, diplomacy, and empathy over aggression and conflict. By understanding the consequences and acknowledging the inherent evil in war, societies can strive for a world where differences are resolved through dialogue and understanding rather than bloodshed and destruction.

Gender Equality: A Call for a More Just World

Gender equality is more than just a buzzword; it's a fundamental human right. It's about ensuring that everyone, regardless of the...
